Damani Bags first independent cash sponsor

27 May , 2015

16yr old racing driver Damani teams up with brand marketing company The Clever Baggers for the 2015 racing season

16 year old Damani Marcano, the youngest racer in the Volkswagen Racing Cup, has teamed up with brand marketing company The Clever Baggers for the 2015 racing season. The sponsorship deal will see The Clever Baggers support Marcano throughout the season, including his next race weekend at Silverstone (30th – 31st May). The Clever Baggers is a specialist Textile Printing Company that offers a comprehensive collection of branded cotton and canvas goods – perfect for company or individual branding opportunities.

Vivian Lacey-Johnson, Managing Director at The Clever Baggers comments: “Damani has been on our radar for a while now and we’re always evaluating new and interesting ways to get the The Clever Baggers message out to a wider audience. We are impressed with the press Damani has achieved so far and the buzz around him on social media and we’re excited to now be a part of that.”

Damani made the jump from karting to racing cars this season as part of the Team HARD young-driver development programme, and he has impressed spectators and racers alike with his agility when moving up the pack. Although challenged with engine problems in his first two races, Team HARD remains confident that Damani will continue to impress throughout the season.

Damani is backed with services by most of his existing sponsors with the exception of RiverGlide, a company his father is involved with, and Team HARD who are making a considerable investment in Damani.

Tony Gilham, Team Principal of Team HARD comments: “We’re extremely pleased that Damani has achieved his first independent cash sponsor after only 2 race weekends! We’ve seen the potential behind Damani from the start, not just his ability when it comes to racing but his outlook on what it means to be a successful racing car driver – this means sponsorship, press and a strong social media presence. The team behind The Clever Baggers has obviously seen the opportunity that Damani presents and have jumped at it.”

Team HARD racing driver Damani Marcano comments: “I’m really grateful to The Clever Baggers for seeing my potential and getting behind me. This backing will help to keep me on the grid. I hope it is the next big step in getting the future funding I need to pay for extra practice time to develop my skills in a car. It takes a lot of practice to get really good at racing and that practice is extremely expensive. I don’t come from a wealthy family so the only way for me to reach my potential is with this kind of independent funding. I’m really looking forward to working with The Clever Baggers and getting their brand known to new audiences.

Damani pilots a fully race prepared VW Golf GTI R Cup Car in the Volkswagen Racing Cup alongside regular proven and experienced racing drivers. Racing in the VW Cup will be Damani’s first step on a multi-year programme to eventually race in the British Touring Car Championships (BTCC).

VW Golf GTiR Cup Car: a 250 bhp race-prepared hatch-back capable of speeds of up to 150mph. These cars are based on a road car but stripped of all parts, not essential to racing, and fitted with a safety roll-cage meeting safety regulations of the VW Racing Cup. Additional differences are adjustable racing suspension and racing tyres that increase the amount of grip, and therefore cornering speeds, that the car is then capable of.
